Ok, so to me, Kelley can do no wrong. I have yet to encounter a book or series by her that I have not enjoyed or ultimately fan-girled over and this Rockton novel is no different. She has proven herself a master across all genres (well, at least all genres I read) from YA Paranormal, YA mystery, to Urban Fantasy to suspenseful adult Mystery. If you need me to recommend you a book, be aware that it will probably be written by Kelley regardless of what type of read you are looking for. It is a fact.Keep in mind that this is book 3 in a series that must be read in order. Absolutely nothing will make sense if you have not read books 1 and 2 to get to this point because seriously everything builds. And why wouldn't you want to read books 1 and 2 from Rockton? They are just as fantastic as This Fallen Prey was.
The suspense and the anxiety that I had to live through in this Fallen Prey were so intense! I was so wrapped up in the story and my beloved character's well-being that I could not put the book down. Each tense potentially life altering/shattering moment had me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails, with no idea how anything would play out. And yes, these are those kinds of books- where safety, HEA or even survival is not a guarantee for the main characters. Side not - the amount of danger and stress that Storm faced was terrible and I was so worried! Can we please not do this next book? And now I am completely doubting my dog training skills since the 8 month old fictional puppy is way better behaved than my 10 month old real puppy.
Everything is just so freaking realistic (be it the setting, the people, the human nature at it's worst) and detailed as if I was there witnessing it- this was not a book a read, but instead a story I experienced. There is no way I wouldn't have been sucked in.) The best part is how I never know how the mystery will end, who is the villain? Can one person be a villain when everyone is capable of murder? Gaw, the questions about human nature and the twists Kelley throws at the reader are hands down the best. I highly recommend this series and I am counting down the days until I can get the next book- actually any book by Kelley will do.

This Fallen Prey A Rockton Novel Casey Duncan Novels Kelley Armstrong Books Reviews
I adore this series and the characters who inhabit it. Rockton is a mash up of LOST, Northern Exposure, The Prisoner and every stellar Police Procedural/Thriller/Mystery written. This series has something for everyone engaging characters, mystery, thrills, murder, love story and a dog. If you don’t like Rockton you just aren’t as twisted as the rest of us who do.
The books and it’s premise is both complex and simple; people go to Rockton to get lost, or to hide out. The books are always a great thrill ride and this one is not the exception to the rule as it is a killer.
I have already ordered the next installment due in 2019 because I have just read the third book in the series TFP and what twistsand turns. I thought at one point in the story that the plot was getting too complicated but it was just the author adding new character/plot twists and setting the stage for the next book.. Her characters/situations/locations change and while questions are answered more need to be asked. Two lost souls, Case and Eric, set the foundation for an amazing cast of characters who change at speed. Keeps you guessing until the very absolute end. The characters while not exactly endearing (violent, psychopaths, sociopaths, etc.) appear real in an unreal setting dealing with problems that are the same as ours only magnified. I sincerely hope Ms. Armstrong does not end this series with four books. Keep up the great work!
This story is so much "Is He or Isn't He" you might lose track if you're not careful with the details. Casey and her band of Rockton folks are on the hunt again.... and this time it might just get them killed.
This book moved so fast at times you might forget to breathe, blink, eat, drink, sleep and pet your loved ones.
This series just keeps getting better. Rockton is supposed to be a safe haven but now the council wants to make it a prison. Oops they forgot to tell the sheriff. Eric and Casey have to figure out how to keep a serial killer prisoner for six months without riling the town and without releasing him to do more harm. This story is a frenetically paced thriller that answers some secrets and reveals new ones. Eric and Casey can count on no one but themselves. I stayed up way past my bedtime reading this and don’t regret a second of lost sleep. I look forward to the next installment.
This is the third book in the series, each growing from the last, to get the whole story you need to know who these characters are from the previous books. I was almost to the end and I told my husband I don't know who's innocent or guilty at this point, it takes you on a very switchback ride. I did guess about the family tragedy correctly though, but there was a whole lot that was guessing right along with Casey and Dalton. Very good mystery with lots of old and new characters coming in and out during the storyline. Lots left for us to think about for the next book, you never know who your neighbor really is, do you?
Rockton is a place to hide for a few years. No one will find you. Only the Council knows where you are, and you've paid them to hide you. Casey is the sole homicide detective in a town of 200, and her skills are constantly needed. There are no forensics teams, no labs, and no doctors. Luckily for her, she was always ambitious and studied every aspect of police work. She's even training a Newfoundland puppy to be a search and rescue dog. In the previous two books, she learned that the Council is more venal than benevolent, and some of the residents are neither victims nor white collar criminals. But now she, and her lover, Sheriff Dalton, are faced with their biggest challenge. The Council drops a walking bomb into their midst a serial killer. Half the town wants to believe in his innocence and free him, while the other half wants to lynch him. There are other crimes going on, mostly murder and arson, and Casey's stretched thin to cover all the clues and figure out what's going on. This is a great series!
