I purchased this only because I was specifically looking to read a contemporary Indian author, whatever the genre be. And it turned out to be a nice read. The plot itself was not very gripping, but the author's narrative is fairly sophisticated, and the prose flows smoothly. Some Indian authors lack the command needed over the English language to write prose, what with incorrect syntax and wrong verbiage. This novel did not disappoint on those counts. The story I have to say is slightly Bollywoodish, but that's acceptable given it is a love story (and not so much of a 'romance' novel, if such a differentiation is achievable!), with human emotions nicely garnished throughout. I really liked the ending -- for the sensitive yet light manner it is narrated.Perhaps I would have liked the novel better had I read this about a decade back while in college. Overall, a pleasing read, and at a little over 150 pages, a quick one too.

Don't get me wrong, the book is a good light read, but it could have been a lot better. My main gripe is two fold. The ending is far too theatrical than is warranted and the character development weak.
Having said that, this is good enough for a light read in a plane / train journey.
Being an IITDian myself, I did enjoy the references to my alma mater.
"A Dilli Mumbai Love Story" marks the entry of yet another talented writer who
understands the young Indian mind and knows how to make one read 200 pages in
one sitting!! I normally do not read fiction but have been have been reading a
few of Chetan Bhagat's books recently and enjoyed his style -- Desi (indian)
storytelling, bollywoodish romance, nice feel good emotional drama. "A Dilli
Mumbai Love Story" (DMLS) fits this category very well. I would rate "DMLS"
higher than Chetan Bhagat's "The three Mistakes of my life" and "One night @
the call center" and around the same level as "Five Point someone".
The author has a very good sense of humor, uses a nice mix of Hindi and English
phrases (hinglish!) and does a good job with the "screenplay" -- shuttling between
past and present very smoothly. The story does not cover the details of the Mumbai
attacks too much (so don't read the book for an insight into the terror attacks!)
and focuses more on the love story part. The plot itself is very simple (kinda like
a typical Bollywood movie) but the journey is definitely fun (like a typical Bollywood movie!).
Overall, a very refreshing read!
